Destination: Nantucket

In honor of my trip over Labor Day weekend, and as it is, fittingly, the place my husband and I got married, I wanted to highlight the incredibly charming island of Nantucket, listing the magical venues in which to get married there.

30 miles out to sea off the coast of Cape Cod, Nantucket is not the easiest place to get to, and the locals prefer it that way. There are some direct flights from New York and Boston, with most people opting to take the ferries over from the cape. The town itself has ancient cobblestone streets and a rich whaling history, with five star restaurants and charming boutiques. There is no shortage of wedding photo moments between the beaches, hydrangea, and harbors. Similarly, there are quite a few wedding venues that all shine in their own way.

The Wauwinet- My personal favorite as this was my reception venue. The only Relais and Chateaux property on the island, this five star property has absolutely impeccable service, greeting guests with a cold glass of champagne upon check in. The sprawling lawn lends itself perfectly for a tented affair, with views of the ocean and west facing sunset. The venue sits about 20 minutes from down, so is the perfect location for those wanting to showcase the island’s nature. Note that the booking of the lawn does require a buyout of the inn itself for guests.

Sankaty Head Golf Club- If you are a golf lover, there is no place more beautiful on the island. With sprawling lawns sitting adjacent to the ocean, the crown jewel of the place is the iconic red and white lighthouse. The fog often rolls in to the course, making for stunning photos and the iconic feeling of Nantucket’s nickname, “the grey lady”. The private club offers not only golf, but also tennis and a beach club, and is one of the most exclusive private clubs in New England, particularly among golf lovers.

Nantucket Golf Club- The other private golf club on the island, the main clubhouse of the Nantucket Golf Club is impossibly charming, with green trim and large overflowing floral planters at the welcome. Like the Sankaty course, tented weddings are the way to go here, with amazing sprawling views of the island and ocean alike.

Galley Beach- When you say you want a beach wedding, and mean, actually ON the sand, this is the venue for you. Galley is the ultimate trend setters destination, and has a bit of a younger, more party vibe. When not hosting weddings, Galley is almost impossible to get into, with vibey music, bottle service, and a convenient location right close to town.

Sconset Casino- If you are considering the ‘Sconset Chapel as your ceremony location, or have strong ties to this small village to the east of town, the iconic tennis club has a gorgeous event space called the ‘Sconset Casino. Inside is a uniquely shaped ceiling built of exposed wood. The space also boasts a large wooden stage that is perfect to highlight a band.

Westmoor Club- Yet another private club located along one the most exclusive road in all of the island, Cliff Road, the clubhouse is unique in that it’s one of the only buildings on the island that is not built with the iconic singles. Rather, the sunny yellow traditional style house, built for the Vanderbilt family in 1917, is home to a private dining room, tennis, and wellness club. Weddings can take place among the perfectly manicured hedges of the tennis lawn, and can be tented on the lawn.

The White Elephant- Located right in town and one of the most exclusive places to stay on the island, the White Elephant is an iconic choice. The restaurant, Brant Point Grill, can be bought out for weddings, using the outdoor patio and lawn as the ceremony or reception space. The harbor provides a quintessential Nantucket backdrop, as your guests can watch the ferries and boats come in and out.

The Chanticleer- Another ‘Sconset classic venue, the Chanticleer is a perfect choice for a small wedding if you are looking for a classy, gardeny feel. The restaurant itself is a slice of old world charm, with a french menu and checkered table cloths. It has a certain old school sophistication with impeccable details, a space that is tucked away in the heart of the village.

The Nantucket Hotel- Located in the heart of the town, the Nantucket Hotel is home to one of the island’s only ballrooms. The room is bright and airy, with white beams and beautiful light fixtures. This is a great option if you like the thought of all guests staying within steps of your reception, or if you are looking for an off season space. You will also have access to the iconic green shuttle bus for amazing photos and a fun ride!

Great Harbor Yacht Club- A great option for those who love boating and/or are looking for a large space to accommodate a large guest count. Located right on the harbor, the lawn provides a stunning backdrop for ceremonies or receptions, and also has an indoor ballroom space. It’s a bit further out of town than the NYC (below), but a stunning location nonetheless.

Nantucket Yacht Club - The best part about this venue is the mini cannon located right on the lawn that couples get to set off after they tie the knot. This venue is also located right in town, adjacent to the ferry, and could not be more convenient for those staying in town. The grand inside ballroom is modern and bright, or there is the option to tent the lawn.

The Whaling Museum- A historic building right in the center of town, the Whaling Museum showcases Nantucket’s rich history and can be used for weddings and events. There is a stunning rooftop terrace perfect for cocktails, with stunning views of the island, and the great hall, which can be used for receptions.

Other venues include the Summer House (needs a bit of updating in my opinion), the Dreamland Theater (a ballroom space), private properties that rent out (like 124 Tom Nevers), and some smaller venues like the Harborview.
